  • Comcast can eat my ass

So I’ve had Comcast for a few years. As much as I dislike Comcast as a company, they surprisingly offer some pretty quick internet connections. I can bitch all day about Comcast but sadly one of the things I can’t complain about is the speed.

With that out of the way, let me give a bit of back story before I start my bitching. I’ve pretty much always had Comcast. All the way back in the day to when they were MediaONE when I was still living at home all the way up until now. There was a brief 6 months lapse when I first moved out and into an apartment with roommates where I had Bellsouth but that quickly changed. The reason I switched to Bellsouth? Comcast couldn’t have anyone out for at least 2 weeks to install cable at the apartment.

After living in the apartment with my roommates for awhile, Bellsouth’s speeds just weren’t cutting it and I opted to switch us to Comcast. They had someone out fairly quickly to get me set up and everything went smoothly. No complaints whatsoever until the day we all moved out of the apartment and transferred service to the new house.

Transferring service for Comcast is a really big deal. It’s not just a few key strokes into their computer system. Instead, it seems like 500 different departments all work together to make this possible and they all screw it up. Moving from the apartment to the house was a big issue. I assumed that since the cable at the house was still working, I could cancel the order to have someone come out and connect the cable. Boy was I wrong…

They sent someone out who disconnected the cable totally shutting off my service even though they knew my service was now at this address. A week later, and a $25 connect fee, I had our internet connection back up and running. From then on everything at the first house with my roommates was gravy until recently when I decided to move out to my own place.

Transferring service seemed like it was going to be simple and hopefully I would avoid the crap I went through the first time. Instead, it’s become the biggest headache ever.

To start, they shut off my service completely a few days early. Okay, whatever, I’m moving out anyways and the install date at the new address wasn’t that far in the future. While my service was off, I discovered my email was no longer working and I could not log into my account. Comcast reps told me that my account would become active again once my service starts at the new address.

Fast forward to a few days later with service at the new addres. No email. I call Comcast to find out what is going on and to my surprise, they tell me the account no longer exists. WTF?

Bouncing around to different Comcast reps I learned that they deleted the old account when my service was disconnected at the old address and they created a new account for me at the new address. Okay, “This is really annoying” I thought to myself. I knew that with the new account however I could create my old account and get my email up and going again.

Hold on a second, not so fast. What’s the password for the new account? The rep provides me a password and joyfully I tried to log into my Comcast account. Nothing… They reset the password and give me another… Nothing. The Comcast rep tries to log in… Nothing. At this point the Comcast rep has no idea what is going on and escalates the case to someone higher up and promises it’ll be fixed with 72 hours.

72 Hours? It’s a week and a half later and my account still does not work. I’ve called Comcast at least 10 times by now and completely went through my 1000 cellphone minutes (Luckily tmobile values me and I got unlimited minutes for $10 more).

I’ve spoken to I don’t know how many different reps, all promising to fix this, and even spoke to someone from Comcast’s corproate office in Atlanta who CALLED ME.

Now as annoying as all this is, I’ll still continue to use Comcast as my internet provider (Unless we get Verizon FIOS…fat chance) but I’m very annoyed and aggrivated that my email still continues to not work.
